These guidelines are the result of a collaboration between the Australian Institute of Environmental Health, Local Government Environmental Health Officers, the Food Policy and Programs Branch and the Communicable Disease Control Branch.

They provide information on types of foodborne disease, suggestions for investigating premises, descriptions of pathogens that cause foodborne disease and show how questionnaires can be used to collect essential information about the people who are ill.

The attachments include specific information, templates and questionnaires that can be used during the investigation of foodborne disease, such as sampling of food from implicated premises and the Hypothesis Generating Questionnaire.
