|
The Federal Government announced on 19 August 2002 a program to immunise specific age groups against meningococcal type C disease. The program ran over a 4 year period (2003 to 2006) and provided free vaccination for children and adolescents aged between 1 and 19 years inclusive. See Department of Health and Ageing: Information about the Meningococcal C immunisation program Up to 30 June 2006, the free vaccine was available for all eligible children and adolescents who were not vaccinated at school during 2003 to 2005. Please note: Meningococcal C vaccine does not provide protection against other strains of meningococcal disease and therefore you should continue to be alert for the signs of meningococcal disease caused by other serogroups.
